The Blue Canyon Boys, based out of Colorado, have scored a hit with their second release. This is high energy bluegrass that hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. Band members include Jeff Scroggins on banjo, Gary Dark on mandolin, Jason Hicks on guitar, and Drew Garrett on bass. Each member contributes in the various vocal arrangements, most of which have a distinctive western-style bluegrass favor. Several of the songs feature multi-part harmony throughout. Though the singing is quite good, the instrumental work may be the Blue Canyon Boys’ strongest asset. With impeccable timing and tasteful licks, there’s not a dull moment. Especially impressive is Scroggins’ banjo work; his lightning fast riffs seem to flow effortlessly.  BMP
