Jason Davis
Steppin' Out
Pinecastle Records

BY KEVIN KERFOOT

Grasstowne banjo player Jason Davis has surrounded himself with a great group of pickers including Greg Luck, Tim Stafford, Justen Haynes, Ron Stewart, Zachary Lamb as well as bandmates Steve Gulley, Phil Leadbetter and Alan Bibey. Other guest vocalists include Russell Moore and Junior Sisk. The result is a great new batch of bluegrass. There’s some great instrumentals here including Fastball, Burnt Fuzz, Billy In The Lowground, Bill Monroe’s Pike County Breakdown and Open Road, which features lots of Grasstowne pickin’. Russell Moore delivers some wonderful vocals on Room At The Top Of The Stairs and Carter Stanley’s Part The Best Of Friends. World Of Forgotten People and Ridin’ The Lines are sung by Steve Gulley with harmonies by Alan Bibey and Jeff Parker. Now that’s what I consider great bluegrass! BMP
