Music artists are now providing the voices for GPS systems. Rapper Snoop Dogg is one of the first “voice skins” giving turn-by-turn directions for TomTom GPS systems that are available for about $13.
At the recent Consumer Electronics Show, another company Gracenote previewed its CarStars offering which has artists such as Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Train’s Pat Monahan as “entertainment guides” in the car who can announce songs, create playlists, recommend music, and announce new releases. The rollout starts later this year, and Gracenote is recruiting new voices.
