Rural Rhythm New Releases

August 25th, 2010

Rural Rhythm Records is very proud to announce two new album releases: Steve Gulley and Tim Stafford, “DOGWOOD WINTER” and The Bartley Brother’s “HIT THE ROAD.”

“DOGWOOD WINTER” by Steve Gulley and Tim Stafford is surely one of the most anticipated new album releases of 2010. This is the first collaborative album by this award-winning songwriting team.  Fans will enjoy hearing Steve and Tim in some different musical settings which they would not normally hear with their respective bands, GRASSTOWNE and BLUE HIGHWAY.

The album is a singer-songwriter album in every sense of the word. Steve and Tim hand picked 14 of their best new original songs they felt would be a good cross-section of their fine work together including the first single, the barn burner, “Just Along for the Ride.” Since most of their songs are bluegrass, they asked some of their dear friends to help on the album. It just so happens their friends are some of the finest musicians in the bluegrass music today – Adam Steffey, Ron Stewart and Justin Moses.

“DOGWOOD WINTER” is available at Walmart, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, f.y.e. entertainment, Ernest Tubbs, CountySales, Music Shed and other fine outlets.
HIT THE ROAD,” by Kentucky bluegrass music veterans The Bartley Brothers, is also another exciting bluegrass release featuring Rick and Shayne Bartley, Jayd Raines, and Josh Hymer.  The first single release is the title track that truly showcases The Bartley Brothers traditional sound featuring their beautifully blended brother harmonies. Combine that with Rick and Shayne’s top notch songwriting talents and you have a truly winning formula on their debut album.

These powerful elements are the reason why so much attention is being drawn to this emerging new group of respected veteran bluegrass musicians – The Bartley Brothers.

“HIT THE ROAD” is available at Amazon, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Ernest Tubbs, County Sales, Music Shed and other fine outlets.

Volume Five – New Release

August 18th, 2010

Mountain Fever Records is proud to announce the release of Down In A Cell, the debut CD from Volume Five.

Volume Five consists of Glen Harrell (fiddle & vocals); Patton Wages (banjo, & vocals); Chris Williamson (bass & vocals); Jesse Daniel (mandolin & vocals); and Adam Duke (guitar & vocals).  Each member of Volume Five has held tenure with national touring bands such as Marty Raybon and Full Circle, The Bradley Walker Band, The Anita Fisher Band, Randy Kohrs and The Lites, The Larry Stephenson Band, and David Davis and The Warrior River Boys, prior to their collective start in early 2008.  Volume Five’s strong vocals, dead-on harmonies, and precision picking make them one of the most exciting new “traditional” bands to hit the bluegrass scene in a long while.

Down In A Cell includes 11 tracks with four originals written by members of Volume Five (“Down In A Cell” by Adam Duke, “Busy City”, “These Lies”, and “Ride Ruby Ride” by Jesse Daniel) along with songs penned by popular writers such as Whitey Shafer (“Baptism of Jesse Taylor”) and Dottie Rambo (“Sailing On”).  The CD also features a great bluegrass re-make of “Home”, originally a hit for country music star Joe Diffie.  Possibly the most unique aspect of Down In A Cell is the lead vocals shared between Glen Harrell and Adam Duke, both soulful singers but each with a distinctive style all their own.

Volume Five will make their IBMA World of Bluegrass debut this year, interviewing with WAMU’s BluegrassCountry on Wednesday, September 30th at 3:30pm CST and performing during the Mountain Fever Records after-hours showcase later that evening.

Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen

August 18th, 2010

The stellar reviews continue to come in as Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen release their first self-titled debut album.  With the album currently in heavy rotation on  Sirius/XM Radio’s Bluegrass Junction, and the band still on the road playing a heavy schedule of tour and festival dates, FS&DK are quickly gaining a name for themselves as an act of solid musicianship, sound songwriting, spot on vocals and an enthusiastic live show.

After years with the United States Navy’s elite country and bluegrass band, Country Current, Solivan has formed a tight knit group of some of the best players Washington D.C. has to offer.  They hit the road to play their music and have collected an ever expanding fan base along the way.  He is joined by Baltimore/D.C. five string-banjo master Mike Munford, Stefan Custodi as the heartbeat of Dirty Kitchen on upright bass, and flatpick guitar wizard Lincoln Meyers.  Solivan finds an outlet that suits his talents to a T, combining his unique and varied experience in the middle of three top-notch musicians who lift each other up and let each person’s talents shine through in the most impressive of ways.

On their album Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, the band stirs the pot with intrigue of the best kind, with a collection that offers up a smorgasbord of musical sounds, combined with multiple layers of instrumental expertise, stellar songwriting, solid lead and harmony vocal deliveries and years of experience, for one of those recordings you’ll never want to stop listening to.

“These guys have the whole package,” says Grammy nominated, 11X IBMA Dobro Player of the Year, Rob Ickes.  “Incredible music by a great combination of players.  They can sing, play and write extremely well!  This is the best new bluegrass band…”  High praises indeed.

The album’s 12 tracks, five of which are written by Solivan, vascilate between melancholy lyrics sung alongside hard driving playing on “Driftin’ Apart,” to the upbeat, happy sounds expressing hope for the future on “Together We Will Fly,” to the swapping back and forth of steaming mandolin and banjo solos on the instrumental “Line Drive,” to the thought provoking, socially conscious “Left Out In The Cold,” a song that takes a glimpse into the world and prejudices of the homeless community.

Katy Daley with WAMU Radio’s Bluegrass Country in Washington, D.C. is very familiar with the band.  “Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen could easily be described as a group of super pickers. But that would only be half the story because the vocals easily match the instrumental work. The result is a powerful collection of hard-driving, contemporary acoustic music…”

Their ever expanding pot of new ideas also has the band offering a house concert experience unlike others on the circuit with their   The Dirty Kitchen Experience: Dinner with the Band.  As a gourmet cook and lover of fine food and even finer music, Solivan & Co. not only serve up an evening gumbo of top-notch musical talent, but Solivan  treats the evening’s guests to a carefully created, full course pre-show feast.  With a solid program in place for marketing the Dirty Kitchen Experience, fans of the band’s music are finding that an evening with FS&DK is more than just an earful of well-crafted tunes.  It’s a full tilt experience that hits all of the senses because Frank believes that music and food are the two greatest ways to bring people together.

Solivan is a mainstay on the Washington D.C. bluegrass circuit, a city he moved to after leaving Alaska.  A few noteworthy venues where Solivan has played include The Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival   (Grass Valley, CA), The Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), The Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (Ancramdale, NY), The Anchorage Folk Festival (Anchorage, AK), Rockygrass (Lyons, CO), The Alaska Folk Festival (Juneau, AK), The Blueberry Bluegrass Festival (Alberta, Canada), and The Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival (Gettysburg, PA).

RURAL RHYTHM CHRISTIAN is proud to announce the upcoming September 28, 2010 album release, “SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN TO ME,” by LOU REID AND CAROLINA.  The first radio single,God’s Front Porch” has been released to bluegrass radio via the label’s “Fresh Cuts & Key Tracks” and is also available to Southern Gospel and other stations via Airplay Direct.

LOU REID AND CAROLINA includes the talents of Lou Reid (lead vocals, mandolin, guitar), Christy Reid (bass and vocals), Shannon Slaughter (guitar and vocals), and Trevor Watson (banjo and vocals.)  Lou is excited about the band’s first bluegrass gospel album saying, “I hope that my style of faith-based music is inspiring to people as I have tried to combine music with a positive message.  Our time on earth is so short and the longer I live, the more sure I am of God’s plan.  If I can touch one heart with this record, I will deem it a success.”

“SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN TO ME” also includes two beautiful a cappella songs: “Oh Lord Have Mercy on My Soul” co-written by Lou Reid and T. Michael Coleman; plus, “It’s So Hard to Stumble (When You’re Down on Your Knees)” co-written by Shannon Slaughter and Lou Reid.  “It’s So Hard to Stumble” made a huge impact on Country, Bluegrass and Gospel radio, garnered a nomination for the 2009 IBMA Gospel Song of the Year Award, and was nominated for the 2010 GMA Dove Award for “Bluegrass Gospel Song of the Year.”  Lou Reid and Carolina fans received a preview of the group’s bluegrass gospel roots as “It’s So Hard to Stumble” was also featured on the band’s current award winning mainstream bluegrass album, “MY OWN SET OF RULES.”  That album also contained another hit song, “Amanda Lynn” that won the 2010 SPBGMA Song of the Year Award and garnered #1 chart positions for both the album and single on the Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine and Bluegrass Music Profiles charts.

LOU REID AND CAROLINA have been chosen as a 2010 International Bluegrass Music Association  (IBMA) Showcase Artist and will perform during the IBMA World of Bluegrass convention this September in Nashville, Tennessee.   Lou is certainly one of the hottest touring artist on the road as he also performs with the Seldom Scene and the bluegrass superstar group, Longview.

Mountain Fever Records is proud to announce they have signed West Virginia-based bluegrass recording artists, No One You Know and will release the band’s CD, Calm Before The Storm on August 31st.

No One You Know is a talented and fresh bluegrass band comprised of five seasoned musicians – Rachel Burge; mandolin and vocals, Don Anderson; bass and vocals, Ramie Bennett; banjo and vocals, Bruce Jones; dobro, and Lance Gainer; guitar and vocals.  Each member writes all of the band’s original music and collectively wowed audiences at this year’s National SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) Convention when they placed second in the International Band Competition.

Calm Before The Storm offers 13 tracks of some of the best bluegrass available today including 11 brand new songs written by the band and new versions of bluegrass classics such as “Ashes of Love” and the Osborne Brothers’ “One Tear”.

“Looking for A Sign”, the first single from the new CD, was released Tuesday, July 27th via www.AirplayDirect.comBand member Lance Gainer had this to say about the song:

“Looking For A Sign’ handles the omnipresent topic of relationships but  with a unique twist.  Rachel not only penned this gem, but delivers a  superb vocal performance that only accentuates the conflict experienced by the main character.  I feel the band achieved a higher level of cohesion where we move as one unit versus five individuals.”
